Wahoo Elemnt Bolt
While all the other computers on test inflicted some degree of awkwardness on us in terms of set up, display, syncing or post-ride analysis, Wahoo’s Elemnt Bolt is a blissful exercise in user-friendly operation, and it’s aerodynamically advanced too.
By blending the computer into the mount Wahoo claims at least a 1-2-watt advantage over other computers, but where it really stands out is how fast it is to set up. The Elemnt smartphone app is totally intuitive in operation and will actually look for and prompt syncing to any ANT+ or Bluetooth sensors in the vicinity. WiFi upload/download is excellent and it’ll give text/email/call notifications on the road.
Configuring screen options is easy and the side buttons let you zoom in and out to display more or less cells, while three below-screen buttons control general operation. It can deliver training prompts via TrainingPeaks or Today’s Plan and it’s fully Strava Live compatible. You’ll need to process routes through Ride with GPS or Komoots to get turn by turn information.
It’s slightly slower to get you back on track than the Garmin 1030 and it lacks the colour screen clarity. Battery life is good at a genuine up to 15 hours and Wahoo sets the standard for comprehensive data in a blissfully easy to use format at a reasonable price.
