FULCRUM RACING 7 DISC

Intended use
Fulcrum’s Racing 7 Disc wheelset is all about larger volume tyres, between 28mm and 50mm, and helping the rider to make the most of them, on or off-road, while being rugged and practical too.
Build
The aluminium rims are 2-Way Fit ready, only needing simple conversion to be used tubeless, and are asymmetrically shaped, with useful widths of 19mm internal and 23.8mm external, plus 22mm height. They’re built with 24 plain gauge, round steel J-bend spokes on to beefylooking hubs with an oversized rear driveside flange, and supplied ready for 12mm thru-axle fitting. The disc rotor fitting is Centerlock, and our pair, including rim tape, weighed a reasonable 1766g.
Ride
We tested both sets of wheels with 28mm Clement Strada LGG tyres, which became 30mm on the Fulcrums, which with greater sidewall support, gave a reassuringly stable ride. The Fulcrum’s are 274g lighter than the Miches, but that wasn’t noticeable. The Fulcrums react and accelerate quickly, but without the Miches’ taut kick. Whether due to greater air volume (at the same pressure) or less wheel stiffness, the Fulcrums almost hide their fast, nimble handling abilities behind a more relaxed exterior.
Verdict
Lighter, wider and cheaper than the Miches, and with smart, unassuming looks, the Racing 7 Disc wheelset performs well on the road, and with potential to explore far from it.
