MAVIC KSYRIUM ELITE UST DISC

£585

-

The build

The Ksyrium is now available for disc brakes and tubeless tyres. Mavic’s Centrelock-fitting aluminium hubs feature 24 straight-pull, double-butted stainless steel spokes, and come ready for 12mm thru-axles, with adaptors for quick-releases supplied. A 15mm front thruaxle conversion is possible by exchanging the aluminium axle.

The rims

Mavic’s Maxtal alloy rims are 21mm tall between the spokes, and 22mm around them, due to the 4D inter-spoke milling (ISM) process that removes unnecessary material. They’re 23mm wide externally and 19mm internally, and the spokes are screwed in to the opposing rim surface. Our pair, including tubeless valves and 12mm thru-axle fittings weigh 1782g.

The ride

Mavic’s supplied 257g tubeless 25mm Yksion Pro UST tyres seat securely and are tough to remove by hand. A syringe and sealant are included too, and when set up, the Ksyriums have a suppleness that belies their greater weight over the Miches. The combination of an undrilled rim bed in a wider rim, and taut, broad spokes makes for excellent response, helped by rapid pickup from the Instant Drive 360 freehub.

The verdict

They’re higher priced than the Syntiums, but once you factor in the cost of two tubeless tyres, valves and sealant, the Ksyriums are decent value. Classy looks, a stable ride with excellent tubeless versatility and a modern feel make these a fine allround choice.
