ROSE PRO SL LADY £981

RAC Y ALLOY BIKE WITH GREATS P EC AND PERFORMANCE TO MATCH

-

Based on an alloy frame, the Pro SL Lady is a great performing bike that boasts many of the benefits of pricier models. Direct-sell firm Rose has made a big effort to ensure that the alloy tubing is smooth and the welds are invisible, to the extent that you’d be forgiven for assuming it’s a carbon frame at first glance. Add to that Shimano Ultegra gearing, quality rubber and a carbon handlebar, and you’ve got a nice little package. Best of all, it performs impressively too.

Carbon forks add welcome compliance to the ride without losing stiffness and, despite the fact that this is a lower-priced bike with an alloy frame, there’s little in the way of weight penalty.

Rose has combined a Shimano Ultegra groupset, including cranks, with a cheaper 105 cassette, which together offer reliable, smooth shifting. With an 11-32 cassette and 50/34 chainrings, gearing sits towards the endurance end of the spectrum.

Interestingly, Rose has opted to spec the smallest frame sizes – 45cm and 48cm – with smaller 650b wheels rather than the 700c wheels found on the majority of road bikes. This means it can maintain a similar geometry – and therefore ride feel – throughout the size range.

Overall, that ride feel is dynamic and efficient, with secure cornering and stability during descents.

The accessible price and great ride feel make this bike a serious contender in the budget range. The range of sizes (45-57cm) will suit riders from about 5ft up to 6ft – use the online guide to make sure you choose the right size. The downside of direct sell means you can’t take it for a trial spin, but a bike fit will help you to tweak it to suit.

Wide gearing, precise handling and an exciting turn of speed make this a great choice if you’re looking for a versatile bike with great kit, and aren’t too bothered about a carbon frame.

“DESPITE THE FACT THAT THIS IS A LOWER!PRICED BIKE WITH AN ALLOY FRAME, THERE’ S LITTLE IN THE WAY OF" WEIGHT PENALTY”
