CAMPAGNOLO’S C-TECH WINTER JACKET is designed for high-intensity winter training. Its relatively lightweight, triple-layer thermal construction is low bulk, with no additional insulation, but has a windproof, water-resistant outer surface with untaped seams. Intended to be a performance fit, the jacket’s elastic ensures it hugs your form with no flapping in the wind.

The sleeves are tailored to a riding position and finished with what Campag calls semi-neoprene cuffs. These broad, sculpted, slim cuffs have a brushed inner surface and seal around the wrists. The same material is used for a 60mm deep, silicone-backed rear hem gripper, which holds its position effectively and repels rear wheel spray.

In temperatures between 5-10°C, we found a good long-sleeved base layer was sufficient. Adding a mid-layer when mercury was nearer freezing was essential, but some may find the lack of in-built insulation a problem. Excellent freedom of movement, a tall collar, plus small zipped underarm vents make the C-Tech very comfortable, and its two very large rear pockets and waterproof zipped front waist pocket are very practical. Reflective piping and logos on the body and large forearm tabs add visibility too.

Italian tights can vary in how well they fit, but our medium Magnesio bibs were a good size. Lowbulk elasticated ankles hold position with just enough pressure, and the soft bibs are very comfy.

The SuperRoubaix Fast Dry fabric is extremely comfortable and, matched with Zaffiro and Lycra Power, creates compressive race-fit tights with good abrasion resistance where needed. They stay in place better than most with no bunching. The 3D/80 M Carbon Gel Pad has multi-density foam and gel areas for comfort, and is carbon-infused for its antibacterial and microcirculation stimulating properties. The generous pad always felt luxurious, whatever saddle we tried. The tights have been treated with a water repellent and have large, reflective logos on each side, as well as on the rear.
