HOW WAS LIFE BEFORE CYCLING?
“My weight had yo-yo’d after having children but my major weight gain started after I broke my ankle. Cycling seemed the perfect way to start my weight-loss journey.”
WHAT BIKE DID YOU START WITH AND WHY?
“I bought a green Pashley Parabike because I loved its classic vintage lines and the history behind the design. It was the perfect bike to start out on as I was heavy and it was very comfortable.”
HOW DID YOUR DIET CHANGE?
“I was eating large meals too late in the evening so I swapped those for veggie soups. But there was always room for a treat or two every now and then. I feel it’s important to still allow foods we like without feeling guilty about it.”
WHAT ACHIEVEMENTS HAVE YOU HAD THROUGH CYCLING?
“In 2018, I was awarded a place as one of the top 100 inspirational women at Cycling UK. I started up a ladies group of my own, called the Deeping Lady Riders, which now has 80 members. I’m also a member of the Fenland Clarion Club and have taken part in time trials for two seasons now.”
WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO RIDE?
“My riding is mainly local – to Hunstanton and back. My first year on the race bike I did a charity ride from London to Yaxley. I’ve also been lucky enough to ride the London 100 three times. My first ever TT was in my first year on a race bike, it was a two-up charity TT held by the lovely group the Gorillas in Oundle.”
