We show you how to ride in style and comfort as the temperatures go through the roof this summer

With blue skies here it’s time to enjoy summer riding. Once that would have meant wearing any old shorts and jersey but now there’s specific kit designed to function and deliver performance when the mercury rises.

Many brands offer jerseys aimed at dedicated styles of riding, whether it’s ripping up the race circuit, climbing mountains, riding a sportive or hitting the gravel.

Jerseys today are lighter, cooler, more aerodynamic and better wicking. Many use technologies found on the backs of the pro peloton. Most also offer sun protection – but beware of some open-mesh designs.

Shorts are an important investment. When it comes to your rear take it seriously because it’s one of the most crucial contact points with the bike and the difference between happy miles and misery. This is one place not to

skimp and many filter-down technologies can be found on modestly priced bib shorts. Many brands now offer summerspecific models and even offer shorts designed for different types of riding be it racing, a fun a day out or venturing off-road. When trying on shorts be sure to sit on a bike because most are designed to feel right in the pedalling position. Also, some race-led brands come up small.

Before buying shorts and jerseys do your research to see what works best for your specific pedalling preferences, riding style and body type. Here we bring you 10 shorts and jersey sets to help you have a comfortable summer in the saddle.
