FIZIK INFINITO R1 SPECIAL EDITION GIRO 1919

£349.99 Limited-edition shoes commemorating a race through the Italian landscape at night

-

Celebrating 100 years since the 1919 Rosso Corsa race – the first to take place post WW1, and one that saw multi-nations grace the podium, these special-edition shoes have the weight of history behind them.

THEY ARE LIGHTWEIGHT

The 1919s are a super-light shoe. With the minimal sculpted UD carbon sole bonded to a laser-perforated Microtex upper, they tip the scales at a scant 289g each for a EU size 45.

THEY’RE STIFF

The uni-directional carbon fibre sole is shaped and reinforced in key areas to o er superior sti ness, which makes these R1s one of the sti est shoes Fizik has ever made. Sti ness means optimal power transfer when you’re riding hard.

THEY’RE COMFORTABLE

Fizik’s latest upper design is all about ‘volume control’. That means the design of the micro-adjusting BOA IP-1 dials and wire loop zig zags across the forefoot. This o set design pulls the forefoot together in a balanced manner creating a wraparound fit free of pinch points and friction. Combined with the dynamic arch support that adds stability – and the sculpted footbeds – this really is luxury footwear.

THEY’RE RARE WITH IT…

The 1919s are a special-edition shoe, released in conjunction with this year’s Giro and will only be available through this cycling season. The design celebrates 100 years since the 1919 Rosso Corsa race. The 1919 race was the first to feature a podium with non-Italian riders so this shoe celebrates the coming together of nations, preempting the modern multinational peloton. When the 1919 race came through the Veneto region (home of Fizik) there were few essential services, including no street lighting, and riding often meant stints in the saddle for 15 hours, many of which were in darkness. Of the 66 riders that started, only 15 finished. To celebrate those competitors and their endeavours the 1919s feature a route map of the Giro in fluro pink printed over a fully reflective surface, so they’ll light the way when riding in the dark.
