OAKLEY TOUR DE FRANCE JAWBREAKER
£195 Limited-edition technical eyewear
Oakley has a long association with the Tour de France and it has produced plenty of Tour-issue glasses over the years. The 2019 Jawbreaker is a limited-edition pair that will be around for as long as they’re available – so catch them quickly before summer passes us by.
For 2019, Oakley is celebrating 100 years since the first yellow jersey was awarded, so these Jawbreakers get plenty to set them apart from the standard design. First up is the matt-finish to the frames, which is highlighted by a custom platinum set of bold yellow accents and
graphics. The included soft-touch leather case is a step above the standard unit, too. Not that the standard Jawbreaker glass is anything to be sni ed at, since you get a lens shape designed to extend the field of view in the upper peripheries. So you still get prime optics when you’re looking ahead but head-down, sprinting for glory. The frame itself uses Oakley’s Switchlock™ design, so no more trying to force expensive lenses in and out of the frames, you simply pull the roundel Oakley logo apart and the lens pops out with no stress.
The Jawbreaker also has adjustable arms. With a flick of the clasp mounted on the arms you can then extend the arms between three positions ensuring a perfect fit whatever the size of your head, or whichever helmet you choose to wear. Clever stu .
As for the lens, well, the TdF-edition Jawbreaker gets nothing but the best with its mirrored flame finish Prizm Road lens. These optics are designed to enhance the contrast while still protecting your eyes from harmful sun rays and they do it with a sweet, rose-tinted glow.
There is a whole bunch of tech built into the Jawbreaker and it has a full frame glass, yet only tips the scales at a scant 32.6g.
