SCICON AEROCOMFORT GLASSES

£219 Bag masters expand to eyewear

-

Scicon is legendary when it comes to bike bags and cases. Recently, it’s diversified into other areas with a short saddle and now these sharp-looking shades. The Aerocomforts max out on adjustability with the package including three different sizes of nose pad. You can also add or remove the lensprotecting fenders on the bottom edge of the glasses. The arms are some of the most adjustable around, the rubber temple tips have a metal core and can be bent to pretty much any angle to secure the fit. The arms themselves also have three inserts (called clip switches) you can remove these clips to make the arms more flexible, too. For prescription glasses wearers the Aerocomforts have an RX Adaptor available.

The Optical clarity of SCN-XT lenses is certainly up with the likes of Rudy Project and Oakley. It’s also superior in its chemical resistance so it won’t be damaged by common chemicals or solvents.

guarantee against cracking. The last piece of the puzzle is an OLEO/Hydro coating – this permanent coating makes it very hard for any foreign bodies to latch onto the lens (water, grease, dirt). They’re also photochromatic and they transition from fully clear to a dark smoked lens in just 8.25 seconds.

At 32g these are suitably light and the fit, because it’s so adaptable, is excellent with a tenacious grip that doesn’t bounce even when hitting truly rough gravel descents. The lens vents top and bottom do their job keeping fogging at bay, though riding on some of the hottest days of the year meant a build-up of perspiration on the brow of the frame.

The package is impressive, too, including a soft cleaning bag, metal hard case, three nose pad options, sprint lens fenders and spare inserts for the arms, a screwdriver tool for the arms, anti-fog gel (spray), RX adaptor and an accessories pouch.

The Scicons are excellent technically and in terms of fit and performance. The downside is the price: at over £200 they’re competing with the likes of Oakley, 100% and Rudy Project’s premium offerings.
