BKOOL SMART AIR LITE

£749.99 Looking good

WEIGHT 23kg FLYWHEEL 4.5kg CASSETTE INCLUDED No NOISE 75dB

This is BKool’s affordable version of its flagship Smart Air (£1199.99). As we went to press, BKool announced it would no longer be producing trainers, although this product will still be available under the Zycle brand.

The Air Lite is taller than most and at 23kg is heavy to carry; conversely this helps with stability in use. Initial set up is easy and it has a footprint that’s 58cm wide x 69cm long.

There’s no cassette included but the system works with 7- to 11-speed setups from all the main players and most thru-axle designs, but adaptors don’t come in the box. Connecting to BKool’s Simulator app is easy, as is connection to ride software via ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth Smart.

The unit is capable of replicating up to 2000 watts and

speeds of up to 70kph, so there’s never any problem with running out of power or speed. It also replicates gradients of up to 20 per cent. The power output is said to be within three per cent accuracy, which we found to be true.

Pedalling is a joy with a certain amount of natural movement because of the hanging design, but it’s not a deliberate rocker plate like the Smart Air. The ride is smooth and natural without any choppiness. This new design also reduces the load and stress on the bike.

Out of the saddle is a completely different sensation to most and you feel the rocking. It’s a little disconcerting at first but you get used to it. The Air Lite is relatively quiet but it’s not the quietest trainer here.
