The Keeper is a neat idea, taking the compact, folded shape of a plate lock – such as the Bordo – but using more flexible and, potentially, tougher chain links. There is a knack to getting the Keeper folded up, but once mastered, it makes it easy to carry. For such a modestly priced lock, it’s pretty hardy too, able to absorb all of the abuse from a standard saw blade, and a combined time with tungsten just shy of a minute. On the downside, bolt crop resistance wasn’t great and, when pitted against a grinder, the results were nothing special either. However,

WE SAY... Once the knack to folding up the Keeper is mastered, it makes it easy to carry

corrosion resistance is excellent for a lower priced lock, while the quality lock barrel resists picking and pulling well – although, in the debit column, two strikes from our hammer at a distance of 1m were enough to break it. For the money, the Keeper does a good job and, certainly for low-risk use, we’d recommend it. For the budget-conscious, it definitely has to be a contender. The Keeper does throw up one particular issue though – namely, the disparity in the British ratings. That it can earn the same rating as Kryptonite’s own range-topping models is strange and we’re sure even Kryptonite themselves would admit that the Keeper isn’t designed for the same theft resistance as its legendary U-locks and chains.
