PROVIZ REFLECT 360 PLATINUM E BIKE JACKET

£179.99 Light up the night

- Warren Rossiter

Proviz’s reputation is built on highly reflective clothing that will ensure you’re visible both in low light conditions and on the darkest nights, and therefore keep you safer on the road. Its new Platinum jacket aims to add another element to that, with a proper technical design that’ll also keep you warm on the coldest of rides.

The jacket’s main body is made from ‘Reprieve PET’, a polyester-like material constructed solely from recycled plastic bottles. This is wrapped around a stretchy thermal fabric, which means it moves and stretches with you as you move. To add warmth, the front chest panel and the back are lined with a quilted DuPont synthetic down, which did a good job keeping me warm.

In spite of the name, this isn’t purely a jacket for when you’re riding an ebike, as it’s just as effective on any leisurely, lowintensity rides. It’s not one for

club rubs but for commuting, shopping trips or the school run it works very well. I also found it extremely breathable for such a warm jacket, and though it’s not designed to be waterproof I was impressed by its resistance to light rain and road spray.

If anything, the cut is too generous: the torso is quite boxy and bulky and I had no trouble fitting it over a big sweatshirt with room to spare. The length is good and the drop-tail with shock-cord tensioning is excellent. While there’s plenty of stretch to the arms and they do stay in place if you make use of the thumb loops, the sleeves do feel extremely short.

The huge swathes of CE EN20471-rated Reflect360 material make this a jacket you simply can’t be ignored in by other road users, which is its raison d’etre and the most compelling reason to buy it. It’s very well put together and has a wealth of features, but my large test sample was too oddly sized for me to really recommend it. This genuinely is one to try before you buy or to check the returns policy if buying online.
