Fact: long weekends are perfect for taking on cooking projects. First cab off the rank is this watermelonrose panna cotta with meringue number by @chefmattmoran. Find the recipe at delicious.com.au. Photo: @bendearnley Styling: @kirstenljenkins

PIECE OF CAKE: My beloved dog Audrey had her first birthday recently, so I just had to make the cake on the November issue cover to celebrate. My version wasn’t quite like the cover photo, but she loved it and all her party guests were impressed. Audrey was only allowed a small slice and was slightly miffed that her friends got to eat more than her! Glenda Grice

PICK AND MIX: My 91-year-old mother recently handed down to me her mixer from 1958, so what a joy it was to put it into service by making the passionfruit and pineapple pavlova with passionfruit curd from the December/January issue (p 119) to serve on Christmas day. The meringue whisked up like a dream – thick and glossy – and it came out of the oven perfectly. Even Mum agreed that the pav was as good as the one she used to make. Wendy Illingworth

NEXT-GEN FAN: I have every copy of delicious. since April 2002. There have been many recipes made over the years, but my three boys love Bill Granger’s one-pot chicken curry and fruity beef casserole. My eldest was two years old when I first bought the mag and now he is 20, has his own place and has just qualified as a chef. I bought him his first delicious. subscription for Christmas – now we have two generations of fans! Kylie Cook

SUMMER LOVING: Each summer, I look forward to the delightful recipes in the party season issues of delicious. – particularly November. As with many of my copies, I sit down and mark all of the recipes I want to make and what party I could make them for. I made the pistachio, raspberry and rose layer cake (p 122). It was a huge success and I can’t wait to continue down my list: Valli Little’s Turkish delight cheesecake (p 114), double chocolate and salted caramel mud cake (p 121), and the list goes on!
