Q & A ASK CHRISTINE

-

My doctor has been on at me for ages about doing more exercise. The whole exercise thing confuses me. I’m not a fan and I’m just lost on what I’m meant to be doing. Where do I start?

Christine says: There’s lots of info out there more confusing than helpful.

The key is moving regularly and consistently to keep blood glucose levels stable and in safe ranges. This helps to manage your diabetes in the long term and improves overall health at the same time.

Choose an exercise you enjoy that feels like it’s a physical effort. If that’s yoga, swimming, dancing or walking, and you know you’ve challenged yourself, that’s a perfect place to start.

Going from no exercise to each day is a big ask, so start with 2-3 nonconsecutive days of exercise for about 15-30 minutes a session and build up. Being consistent is what improves your glucose levels and diabetes (see page 126 for more ideas).
