Why do my feet always feel cold?
Danielle says: We all get cold feet from time to time (in the literal sense), but it is usually through seasonal changes and wearing the wrong footwear. But some people’s feet feel cool to the touch all the time. This is most often the result of poor circulation to the peripheries (legs and feet) and may be caused by a range of health issues. Increasing activity levels, especially if you sit at a desk all day, can help.
If the feet feel cold on the inside but not to the touch, then it may indicate nerve damage. This is most commonly caused by diabetes, but may be the result of other health problems. Typically, other symptoms include numbness, tingling, or pins and needles.
A podiatrist or other health professional can help determine if poor blood flow and/or nerve damage is the cause, and whether further investigation is needed by your GP (see page 93 for more information).
