1 pill 2 diseases
Scientists believe they have overcome two major
medical hurdles in discovering a drug that can combat both diabetes and obesity. Semaglutide, a pharmaceutical drug used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, initially developed to help control blood
sugar levels in people with diabetes by Novo Nordisk – a Danish pharmaceutical company – has
been found to help obese people lose weight, according to a study conducted at the University of Leeds. The study found patients were less hungry
and had fewer cravings for food in as little as 12 weeks. After the success of the second phase, the clinical trial is to undergo a third phase, believed to last for up to four years, before
hopefully being released to the public.
