Swimming can help to build strength and prevent further injury
If walking is problematic, swimming or aquatic exercise is brilliant. It’s warm and the compression of the water provides support to the joints. There is no jarring, yet the muscles can work moderately, or somewhat hard, to build up strength to protect your back from further injury. You can do a waterbased program recommended by your AEP or, if possible, join an aqua aerobics class.
