familiar with a software program called VLC? It’s a video player like QuickTime or Windows Media Player. It’s a free program – you can get it from

Use VLC to play your video. While it’s playing, click on the Playback menu: you should see a menu option called Playback Speed, with a slider you can use to slow down (or speed up) the video. I have always known that the US market is cheaper than Europe when buying goods, but I have never really known why this is. I know that each country has difference rates of VAT or sales tax but can this alone be the reason for the price difference when buying electronic goods in the US?

For the 7D Mk II, the EU & UK market are quite similarly priced, but there is a big difference in price with the US market. The UK vs US price difference is £498 or $815. I could in theory, convert sterling to dollars and save 45% against the sterling price if I happen to be travelling to the US and buy the camera.

I am contacting you to see if you can give a reason for this big price difference. I’m sure there are many readers who are scratching their heads at this question. We generally try and reflect a “street price’ in our review. However, as the Canon 7D Mk II isn’t on sale yet, we’re unable to do so. This means we can only use the RRP, which does seem to vary from country to country. Part of the reason for this is that the UK price includes VAT while the US doesn’t. This is mainly because US sales tax varies from state to state.
