Make a photo booth

Alastair Jennings helps you add the fun factor to a party with a home-made photo booth

Capturing shots of family and friends at gatherings is always difficult, with everyone wanting to chat and focus on catching up with people they often haven’t seen for years. The usual solution is to herd large swathes of people into the garden to capture a slightly awkward group photo.

However, taking inspiration from the craft blogging world, there’s a more entertaining solution – your own photo booth. Forget the small enclosed booth in high-street shops that you use for passport photos: what you really need is a simple background support, a light or two, and a wireless shutter release. Set it up in a corner and let your guests get on with it. Add a few props such as hats, and you’ll quickly find the DIY photo booth has become the centre of attention. Just make sure your camera is totally secure!
