“This is from the collection Pharonic Light, and was taken in Egypt in 1989. I was going up the Nile in a felucca [a traditional wooden sailing boat]. I had thought of making this image before I got there, and when I saw the sail, it intersected my imagination.” “I took the image with the Leica M6 and a 50mm lens in ambient light. Having worked with this equipment for so long, I can maximise the intelligence of the lens and compose so I fill the frame. I don’t see any benefit from cropping images.” “This image had a big effect on me.
