Shoot a building in a creative way
ALTHOUGH at first Kew might not appear to be a cracking venue for a bit of street photography, Richard says that it’s a place that perfectly suits his style of ‘walkabout’ photography. “In locations like this, I don’t really have a particular shot in mind, but tend to amble and just keep my eyes peeled. When we came across this avenue of trees leading to the Palm House, I knew it had potential. I love using a shallow depth of field in my day-to-day photography, but I knew that this approach wouldn’t suit this shot; it needed depth through the scene, so I set the aperture to f/10.
“The trees were quite dark and I knew this might cause the brighter parts of the picture to be overexposed, so I slightly underexposed the shot and was prepared to bring out the details when I edited it later.”
