W is for White balance

-

A camera’s White Balance (WB) control determines the colour temperature of a scene, and can produce a palette spanning from cool blue to warm amber, depending on the setting used. It may be tempting to rely on the Auto setting, but this is affected by colours present and can neutralise both warm light early in the day and blue light at twilight, giving bland results. If you’re shooting JPEGs, use the Manual WB preset that matches the conditions (Daylight, Indoor, etc) to ensure accurate colours. If you’re shooting raw, rest easy: you can adjust the White Balance when you process the file later.
