Make the most of mist
Mist is a bit of a landscape lottery: sometimes it hangs around for hours, and other times it burns off in minutes once the sun rises, so it pays to be in position before dawn. If your composition includes a large amount of mist, you’ll end up with a muddy, grey image. Take a test shot and check the histogram; if it’s not to the right of the graph, dial in some positive exposure compensation – start with 1/2 to 2 stops – and take another shot.
