Canon led the way with five-ink printers that use both pigment- and dye-based black inks for effective document and photo

printing, respectively. The new TS6150 (or TS6151 in white) continues the tradition, combining a reasonable purchase price with competitive running costs, especially if you opt for the XL or XXL cartridges.

There’s a built-in scanner for easy standalone photocopying, via 3in colour touchscreen controls, but no memory card slot nor the ability to print on white-faced CDs/DVDs. A handy rear paper tray accommodates up to 20 sheets of photo paper, of up to A4 in size.

Performance

Maximum print resolution is slightly less than in Epson printers. Even so, print quality is excellent with superb detail, smooth gradients and lovely colour rendition. Tonal range is also very good.

At the rear, an upright input tray holds up to 20 sheets of photo paper.

It incorporates a 1,200 x 2,400 dpi A4 scanner. Pushbutton controls supplement the 4.3-inch colour touchscreen.
