SPIRALLING
DISCOVER THE GOLDEN RATIO....
The golden ratio (approx 1.61:1) is a powerful compositional tool. It can be applied as the Fibonacci Spiral (where a spiral flows through the frame), or as a grid in a similar way to the rule of thirds. Think beyond staircases for spiral-suitable subjects. There are many ways to capture images with the Golden Ratio in mind, including portraits and landscapes.
When it comes to composition, use this ratio to decide how you split up the frame. For example, don’t plonk your subject directly in the middle. Use the horizon line as a guide and position the subject at one of the intersecting points of the ratio.
Top tip: When cropping images in Photoshop, turn on the Golden Ratio Overlay as a guide to help you.
