Lenses: wide-angle vs telephoto

-

Wide-angle lenses are a natural fit for emphasising wide-open spaces, but a telephoto lens allows for interesting details to be isolated. The compression effect of longer focal lengths enables a more abstract approach too, with objects in the foreground and background appearing much closer together than they are in reality – during this shoot, it worked well for contrasting reeds and rushes against mounds of dark Somerset peat.
