In this flat, low-lying part of the world, Glastonbury Tor provides a prominent focal point even when it’s
just a bump on the horizon. Duncan spotted the potential that the contrast created by the stormy late-afternoon light and the prominent lines offered for emphasising the distant Tor, in this scene viewed from a bird reserve. “As can be seen from the sky, it was a case of waiting for the sun to burst through and light up the foreground to make the vegetation glow a little, as I wanted to use the plants as a leading line to draw the eye through the scene,” reveals Duncan.
“I also wanted to include the Tor, combined with the water and a big, dramatic sky, to capture a real flavour of the Levels. I processed the pictures in Photoshop using one of the tips from Digital Camera to give me a CMYK preview for printing – something I hadn’t ever done before.”
