New gear, buying tips and the world's toughest tests

- Rod Lawton

Under normal circumstances this would have been an Olympic year, but a global pandemic put paid to that. Camera manufacturers had already committed to launching new top-end models for sports and news photographers ahead of the games, though, so in the past few months we’ve seen new releases from Canon and Sony laden with clever tech.

Now it’s Nikon’s turn, in the shape of the D6. As working pros can never afford to miss a shot, performance and reliability are paramount in a camera like this. So turn to page 92 to find out if the brand has done enough to take the fight to its rivals in 2020. One camera that we rate very highly is Fujifilm’s X-T3, and the list of improvements for its successor could be written on a postage stamp. But improve on it Fujifilm has, and the X-T4 must be one of the best APS-C mirrorless cameras on the market. Find out what we like about it on page 96.

Also on test in the DC labs this month is an update to Canon’s flagship APS-C mirrorless, three new optics and our roundup of the best lenses for shooting landscapes on DSLRs and mirrorless cameras.
