THE LAWRENCE BROTHERS’ DOMINANCE
Aresounding salute goes out to Hunter and Jett Lawrence for their remarkable achievements in the 2023 American supercross and motocross season. We witnessed Hunter’s triumphant return to the level of excellence he truly deserves. Hunter has encountered numerous challenges during his professional career in the States, making his victory in the 250 East Coast AMA Supercross series and subsequently in the 250 Pro Motocross series all the more epic. However, it’s essential to note that Hunter’s outdoor championship wasn’t a walk in the park. Just one week before the Pala opening round, he sustained rib injuries. Despite minimal practice between rounds, he persevered, riding through the pain at each race. This sheer determination and grit are a testament to his character and unwavering desire to win. Bravo, Hunter! You’ve not only inspired your Australian moto fans, but also garnered immense respect from all of us.
Now, let’s turn our attention to Jett, whose performance left us in awe. After clinching his second AMA 250 Supercross Championship, this time on the west coast, he made the leap to the 450 class for the Pro Motocross series. As we all know, he demolished the competition, becoming only the third rider in history, following in the footsteps of legends Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart, to complete a perfect outdoor motocross season with 22 wins out of 22 races. While it’s true that some top contenders like Eli Tomac (injured), Ken Roczen (World SX), Justin Barcia (injured), and Chase Sexton (who missed several rounds due to a concussion) were absent, there’s no denying Jett’s intelligence and consistency in his racing. Most of the time, it seemed effortless for Jett to lead the pack. His smooth riding style, patience and race maturity were exceptional for a rookie. Even when Chase returned fit and healthy, the 2022 championship runner-up pushed Jett to the limit, but ultimately, the young Aussie prevailed. Congratulations, Jett!
Both you and Hunter have made history as the first siblings to conquer both coasts in the 250 Supercross class, and you’ve provided hours of thrilling entertainment for your fellow Aussies. We couldn’t be prouder of what you’ve accomplished in such a short period in the pinnacle of supercross and motocross. Cherish your achievements, and we eagerly await the prospect of seeing you compete against each other in the 450 class in 2024.
