HAIR: DECISIONS!
Walking out of t he hairdresser with a f unky new haircut is one t hing; learning to recreate t he style at home is another. I’ll admit there have been many tears shed in my bathroom when t here was absolutely NO WAY I was going to have hair as high or textured as was promised. But you can avoid any hair-anguish by choosing t he right f inishing product and learning how to use it properly. Be guided by your hairdresser’s recommendations, but if you are still confused, I’ve divided t hem into t hree simple categories.
Hair Gels
People might think gels are a thing of the past, but they are great for that classic wet look that is still very popular. They hold and define the hair and have a super high shine if you’re after that 1950s preppy boy look. A big plus for gels is that they are easily washed out.
Hint: avoid cheap gels, as they have a tendency to dry up the scalp and generate f laking.
Styling Creams
These are ver y popular because t hey add subtle separation and def i nition with a f lex ible hold; perfect for low-maintenance boys on t he r un. You can apply to wet or dr y hair and t hey are ver y easy to ri nse out before bed.
Texturising Pomades
These form t he la rgest categor y and are marketed with dif ferent names such as Fibre or Clay. They are hugely popular because t hey are versati le; perfect for giv i ng texture to short hair or control to longer hair. They usually have a st rong hold with low shine, meaning it gives your hair a matt f i nish with an “I haven’t even done my hair” ef for t less look.
Hint: to keep the matt finish, work them into dry hair.
