Local derby was just like old times

- GEOFF MANN MEL POCKNALL

WESTSIDE took the tag, Macquarie were convincing winners in the Reggie reserves but the juniors and firsts were both nail-biting matches. Although the Raiders scooped the points, Rabbitohs fans went away knowing their sides are incredibly competitive.

Supporters of both teams have been chatting all week about “what if’s” and “if the ref hadn’t” (or had) and such and such “stood up on Sunday”!

They’re all wonderful, traditional, healthy words from clubs that have exchanged “pleasantries” for the past 40 years - give or take a decade when Westside was in recession.

There is a vibrancy about the local league that hasn’t been seen for years. Wellington is back near the top of the table, Narromine, Westside, Nyngan and Macquarie are in a dogfight to make the playoffs and the southerners, Parkes and Forbes have to oust each other to tackle Wellington and CYMS in the top three.

Well done to everyone who is contributing to the return of the Monday morning wash-up! Results: League tag Westside 16 - Macquarie 0 Juniors Macquarie 26 - Westside 24 Reserve Macquarie 40 – Westside 6
