Following in the footprints of Raspberry Pi and Acorn’s BBC Micro, the Micro:bit is the British Broadcasti­ng Corporatio­n’s attempt to encourage more children to try coding – just as the BBC Micro did in the ’80s. The tiny device measures just 4cm by 5cm (considerab­ly smaller than a Raspberry Pi), is powered by a 32bit ARM Cortex chip, and features two built-in programmab­le buttons, 25 red LEDs, an accelerome­ter, and a magnetomet­er.
