As a primer for what must be one of the world’s most popular card games after poker and solitaire, Enter The Battlefield – Life On The Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour is undeniably thorough. Written, produced and directed by Shawn Kornhauser and Nathan Holt, and narrated by Wil Wheaton, the film follows a group of elite players in their bids to become 2014 world champions. Flanking this central thrust, it also covers the basics of the game and its history, has interviews with the spouses, siblings and friends supporting the efforts of some of Magic’s best players, and briefly touches on the familiar issue of female representation among players and designers. Cringe-inducing rap and awkward high-fives aside, it’s an hour well spent.
