Lab Zero’s de­but game, the mar­vel­lous fight­ing game Skull­girls, was a clas­sic of its genre – but it never broke out of its niche. The stu­dio’s sopho­more ef­fort might just man­age it, how­ever: this is a plat­former RPG heav­ily in­spired by cult PS1 game

Valkyrie Pro­file, with a com­bat sys­tem heav­ily in­formed by Lab Zero’s fight­ing-game nous. While plat­form­ing, you’ll see only main char­ac­ter Ajna, but when en­e­mies turn up for a past­ing, she sum­mons fel­low party mem­bers who have, it turns out, been hang­ing out in­side her sub­con­scious. Each com­bat­ant is mapped to a face but­ton, mean­ing ex­trav­a­gant multi-char­ac­ter com­bos are within reach of even the ab­so­lute novice.
