Long-time Edge readers will know plenty about Lego’s fascinating forays into the world of videogames. The latest effort is the Lego Super Mario series, a modular set that combines the classic brick with technology that allows your blocky Jumpman to hop, skip and “wahoo!” his way through your custom-built course. Sensors read action bricks to trigger sound and music, and send information to – brace for a haunting series of words – LCD displays in Mario’s eyes, mouth and stomach, which tell you how many coins and powerups you’ve collected. It’s a lovely thing, all told: while it’s not in the minifig style one might have hoped for, rest assured we’re still cobbling together the £49.99 required to pre-order the set ahead of release on August 1.
