Super Corporate Tax Evader Playdate A jubilee-enforced short deadline means we’ve been seeking out quick fixes for our limited leisure time – and no device fits into a busy life quite so neatly as Playdate. This surprisingly tense shortform score-chaser offers an amusing twist on Game & Wario’s Gamer mode: rather than hiding under the covers from your mother’s evil eye, you must destroy documents in a backroom while your boss tries to stall the taxman from catching you in the act. Winding the crank quickly is only half the job; to avoid being spotted you’ll need to dock it to hide the shredder before the door is forcefully flung open.

Mega Man 2 3DS What better way to prepare ourselves for another round of Cuphead than by revisiting one of its main inspirations? Studio MDHR’s game is proof that they do indeed make ’em like they used to – well, maybe not Keiji Inafune – with one particular nod to Capcom’s action-platformer that makes us glad we whetted our appetites with this spicy hors d’oeuvre. The helmeted hero doesn’t quite have the charm (or, more importantly, the charms) of his more agile descendants, but let’s just say that the Wood Man fight serves as an especially useful dry run.

Nintendo Switch Sports Switch An incident involving an overly enthusiastic smash and the edge of a desk forces us to temporarily abandon our rise through the badminton ranks and focus on football. Yes, it can be exasperating when you’re partnered with players who don’t, for example, understand that passing across the face of your own goal is never a good idea – or who inexplicably miss the target from a few yards out – but there is nothing to beat a thrilling extra-time victory, particularly when you’re responsible for the winning goal (and dressed as a squirrel in a safari suit, naturally).
