With her skyrocketing career and fantastically femme style, there’s no doubt Haley Bennett is the perfect face for Chloé Eau De Parfum. Celebrating the scent’s 10-year anniversary, we ask the actress about her journey from Ohio upbringing to Parisian muse
Actress Haley Bennett has gone from small-town upbringing to Chloé’s new muse.
I WAS BORN A PERFORMER, AS WERE MY RELATIVES.
I grew up in Ohio, nowhere near the entertainment industry. [My family] would put on theatre plays and, as I got older, it was apparent that’s what I wanted to do in life. I was the first one who left Ohio and dared to make my dream a reality. They still think I’m crazy.
JUST BEING ABLE TO BREAK INTO THE INDUSTRY IS A MIRACLE.
At the beginning of your career, you’re at the mercy of everybody else, [you’re happy to] just work. Now I feel a bit of a shift. I’m only pursuing things that speak to me. There’s not a specific role that I’m seeking – I use my intuition when I read something.
EVEN IN MY ADOLESCENCE, I WAS VERY CREATIVE WITH WHAT I HAD.
I think that’s been a through-line for me into adulthood. When I received my first pay cheque, I started a love affair with shoes. I still have my first pair – they were a splurge.
I’M VERY DRAWN TO THE CHLOÉ AESTHETIC AND THE WORLD THE LABEL CREATES.
It has always celebrated strong women and a sort of effortless elegance. I definitely consider myself to be very feminine, and a strong woman who paves her own way. I love how the Chloé Eau De Parfum bottle [is inspired] by the vintage-style pleats of a Chloé blouse. The fragrance starts with gorgeous peonies, blooms into roses and then it softens into an amber base. It’s so lovely.
I’M SURROUNDED BY A BEVY OF INCREDIBLE, STRONG, AMBITIOUS ROLE MODELS.
My friends and everybody I work with – whether it be makeup artists, facialists, agents, managers, publicists. My best friend, my mother, my grandmother. They all own a piece of me and teach me things. And there are so many amazing actors, from Meryl Streep to Cate Blanchett to Nicole Kidman.
I’VE BEEN FILMING IN CAPE TOWN AND WILL ALSO BE SHOOTING IN NAMIBIA
for The Red Sea Diving Resort. I love photography, filmmaking and storytelling, so I’m not going to say [directing] isn’t a possibility... anything is possible. I never thought being a muse of Chloé was possible and here I am.
