SUMMER ESSENTIALS

-

Writer NOELLE FAULKNER has a passion for music, film, travel, arts, tech and pop culture – so she was the perfect person to compile our summer hot list on p86.

Your story in three words: Warm weather longing. Best thing about summer? Lying on hot pavements, the never-ending nights, the smell of jasmine and the irrelevance of responsibility. And the worst thing? Blue bottles and seat-belt burns. Your number-one summer essential? I should say sunscreen but I probably spend more on slurpees and stone fruit.

Acclaimed makeup artist NONI SMITH has worked with countless Australian and international brands, starting in 1993 with a Guess jeans campaign. This month, she’s responsible for giving cover star Jessica Marais her naturally beautiful glow (see p122).

Your story in three words: An absolute honour. Best thing about summer? The feeling of calm and happiness that comes with spending days by the ocean. And the worst thing? Trying to sleep during heatwaves with no air-con. Your number-one summer essential? The very versatile L’oréal Paris Infallible Eye Paint in Cocky Bisque – for a vibrant, intense, summery glow anywhere on the face.

A master of still-life photography (and an ELLE favourite), this month PABLO MARTIN was tasked with shooting our epic swimwear-themed Manual on p53.

Your shoot in three words: Family, beach, beers. Best thing about summer? Daylight saving – I love leaving work in the light with a few hours to get some sun. Plus having people over and not having to stay inside. And the worst thing? The heat! My body doesn’t cope well and my apartment is a hot box. Your number-one summer essential? A good pair of stubbies and pluggers. Not very fashion!
