A PROGRADE GLOW

FEELING FLAT? FIND LUMINOSITY WITH THIS SPEEDY FACIAL TREATMENT

WHAT IT IS: Dermapen is a professional skin treatment utilising medical-grade needles to puncture the skin and create tiny holes that trigger a wound-healing response, flooding skin with collagen for plumper, even texture and a serious glow. While at-home skin needling typically uses tiny needles that penetrate via a rolling action to a depth of about 0.3mm, in the hands of professionals, these needles go 2.5mm deep, straight up and down. It’s great for all skin-types (from ageing to acne-prone) as the length of the needle penetration can be tailored for each person, and each part of the face.

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE: Needles. Yep, it’s prickly. It’s quick, so the pain doesn’t linger, but if you prefer not to grin and bear it, ask for numbing cream prior (this will add about 20 minutes to an otherwise speedy procedure). After the needling, skin feels hot (soothed by a cooling sheet mask applied directly afterwards), and is pink in colour like a mild sunburn for about 24 hours. During the healing process, which lasts a few days, the skin texture can feel a little gritty, but it’s not noticeable to the eye and I’m extra careful to wear SPF coverage to protect the new skin cells.

VERDICT: A few days post-treatment my skin is significantly smoother and has a newfound glow I haven’t seen since my pre-motherhood days. One session is enough for a complexion boost, but more will be required to tackle scars, fine lines and pigment. I’m so convinced; I book in another session for a month’s time.
