TIME TO SHINE… AGAIN

You’d be forgiven for filing shimmer eyeshadow, along with other ’90s beauty trends like pin-thin brows, under “never again”. But when Pat Mcgrath revived the nostalgic look with emerald shimmer shadow at Versace, we immediately dusted off our most pigmented palettes. If you’re not ready for fullyfledged frosted shadow just yet, take your cues from Missoni’s gilded pastel eye and focus your shimmer shadow on just the inner corners – Britney and Christina would approve.

LOUD SPEAKER

Red lips are as synonymous with Italy as Michelangelo’s “David”, but this season it extended far beyond classic crimson. Dolce & Gabbana’s girl wore her lip loud, matte and proud, in rich shades varying from hot pink to fire-engine red. Marni’s iteration was an orange-based red, while Moschino turned down the heat a touch with a deep shade of brick red. To play along at home, employ a lip brush to keep the application precise and clean up uneven edges with concealer. For all-day staying power, dust loose powder over the top.

SHORT STORY

While the long, layered curtain fringe has been sweeping the temples of It girls for seasons, Guido Palau has heralded the next big trend in bangs – the cropped fringe. The hair maestro cut a short, haphazard fringe into the hair of models at both the Prada and Miu Miu shows for an undone look that screams “I did it myself”. Arguably not for the faint-hearted or low-maintenance among us, the short fringe demands a commitment to everyday styling. Sea-salt spray will keep the look textured and laidback, like at Philosophy, rather than ’40s pin-up girl. Spritz in the product while you blow-dry, tousling the hair with your fingers. Comb ends to the side to soften the choppy effect.
