KILLING EVE STAR JODIE COMER CHATS TO US ABOUT HER CULT CHARACTER’S EPIC WARDROBE, FANGIRL CRUSHES AND FILMING SEASON TWO OF THE HIT SHOW

-

Jodie Comer on the cult role that’s catapulted her career.

JODIE COMER’S MAGNETIC PERFORMANCE as the assassin Villanelle in cult BBC series Killing Eve won her an army of fans, while the iconic scene where she wore a candy-pink tulle Molly Goddard dress initiated the 26-year-old Liverpudlian actor into a world of high fashion and front-row seats. She tells us how it feels to star in the hottest show on the planet. ON ADOPTING THE MINDSET “My first impression of the Killing Eve script was, ‘I am not that girl!’ I saw ‘female assassin’ and thought, ‘Ohhh no.’ You think of Charlize Theron or Angelina Jolie, but then the script just goes against every stereotype of that role and genre. I remember thinking, ‘She’s so mischievous, this is so refreshing.’”

ON BEING A FANGIRL “My first meeting with Phoebe Waller bridge [creator of Killing Eve] was very drunken. We met at the BAFTAS before I knew about Killing Eve. We were both super-drunk. I was fangirling over her, so when it came to the audition, I was like ‘Oh noo, what was I doing?!’ We met before I went into my second audition, and she told me, ‘Just keep doing what you’re doing.’ Phoebe is everything and more. I feel like you don’t meet people in life like her, you know? Someone so comfortable in their own skin. It’s very magnetic.”

ON TAKING FASHION RISKS “The Molly Goddard dress was such a moment. I’m definitely more reserved than Villanelle in my style, but through wearing her outfits, I’ve learned to appreciate her freeness. She doesn’t care about the consequences or what people think.

ON FEMALE FLAWS “We’re finally seeing women on TV we can relate to. We have these amazing shows where women aren’t necessarily just strong, but complex; they’re flawed. Villanelle brings those dark parts of our brain to the forefront, and makes you think, ‘Wanting to put an ice cream in a kid’s face? I can actually relate to that.’”

ON ALWAYS EVOLVING “There’s a huge shift… in energy for season two. The characters are in different places now. In series one, a lot of them were tested and they’ve changed. It’s fun coming back again.” Season 2 of Killing Eve airs later this year on ABC iview
