BREAKFAST

Kick off a long weekend in Wellington, New Zealand, with breakfast at Customs by Coffee Supreme in Ghuznee Street. Wait your turn for a sunny window spot or bunker down at the communal table and enjoy simple toast with superb coffee made from an ever-revolving menu of single-origin beans.

SWEET STUFF

If you have a soft spot for sugar, head to the Wellington Chocolate Factory for what is (in our humble opinion) the world’s best iced chocolate and a temptuous range of handmade single-origin chocolate. In New Zealand’s first bean-to-bar chocolate factory, each bar is wrapped in the packaging illustrated by local artists. If that’s not enough, head further down to the corner of Dixon and Eva Streets and look for the discreet doorway leading upstairs to Lashings. British pastry chef Jackie Lee Morrison has brownies down to an art, using local and artisan suppliers in her moreish creations. There’s even a Vegemite brownie for Aussies feeling homesick.

LUNCH

Just around the corner is the contemporary Egmont Street Eatery, a former industrial carpark, which has had a big impact on Wellington’s food scene. Drop in for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner (daily menus and schedules can be found on their website), to enjoy fresh and seasonal produce in an airy space, with international and New Zealand wine and craft beer and bespoke cocktails also available.

DINNER

As one of the newest faces in town, Highwater Eatery can’t be missed. The head chef, Alric Hansen, has created a menu that places sustainable and local produce as top priority. Swing by for all manner of things that have been churned, pickled, fermented and smoked on-site. For more information and to plan your wild weekend, visit wellingtonnz.com
