Can you afford not to buy Australian made?

-

Leading farm machinery manufacturer, John Berends Implements, continues to service the agricultural sector with Australian made, high quality and well priced farm implements.

Operating since 1966 and still family owned, the company is one of the few of its kind, still keeping as much of the range made in Australia as possible.

General Manager, Derrick Berends, says “A growing number of Australian Manufacturers have either fallen by the wayside or have reverted to importing their product out of China.

This can result in cheaper products available for the consumer.

Unfortunately,

it is almost always at the expense of quality.

Many a hobby farmer has been caught out thinking “we haven’t got much work to do with it so we can’t justify spending much”.

Unfortunately, poor quality machinery and the hours it is used don’t necessarily follow any set pattern.

For example, a slasher blade made from the wrong grade material will just as likely break on the first stone it strikes as it will the 1000th stone.

Despite this increasing pressure from cheap imports, Berends continues to be one of the leading manufacturers in tractor implements in Australia.

Part of this reason is their ability to keep designing dif- ferent products to suit the ever changing market.

Although having a large product range can have its challenges, the diversity of it keeps production constantly busy.

A recent example of the changing range is the new 3.0m trailing grader which was first built as a one-off in 2009.

It was soon discovered that there was a niche market for a well priced heavy duty trailing grader, something which is unlikely to be imported from Asia.

The machine weighs 2 tons and is ideal for maintaining roads without the costs/problems of buying a secondhand road grader.

With hydraulic angle, tilt and wheel lift, track maintenance has never been so easy and affordable.
