IT’S A MIRACLE!

-

Seriously, quite how Davide Guigliano self-declared himself unfit (and therefore unable) to race in BSB for Tyco BMW for the remainder of 2017, but a scant few weeks later was perfectly fine to first test and then be chosen to race the Ten Kate Red Bull Honda in Germany, must be some kind of miracle, right? Doctors, surgeons and soothsayers must be queuing up outside his door to discover the secret as to how he managed it, because this verges on a Lazarus-esque recovery, if ever we’ve seen one.

On a genuinely serious note, we find this hugely disappointing, as must both Tyco BMW and BSB queso grande Stuart Higgs. Rumours abound that Higgs had a huge hand in (his wallet…) getting Guigliano to BSB and on the face of it, Tyco signing the Italian was a big coup for both series and team. In fairness to Davide, he did whack himself up quite badly at the start of the year, but then given his racing history there was always likely to be a big smash coming. It’s a pity it happened so early though, as his time off has no doubt had a negative effect on how he views the series. That, and having to fight tooth and nail during the first races at Donington for a handful of points, with racers he’s likely never heard of.

It can happen when world level racers come to BSB, that they quickly realise it’s not for them. Jeremy McWilliams was a case in point a few years back. He never looked happy for his short stint in BSB and after an injury, he was off. Is it the tight tracks or the fierce competition that puts them off? No idea, it’s most likely a combination of things, but when you see folk like Guigliano running away, and world champs such as Sylvain Guintoli struggling to score points (for whatever reason), it just sheds more light on just how competitive a series it is – lucky for us, wouldn't you say?
