I OWN ONE…

Jon Brown bought his L6 last year. Here’s what he makes of it…

“Having owned the K6 Gixer 1000 for a while, it was time to move on to a newer model. I purchased an L6 last September from Orwells in Ipswich. I took one out for a test ride and I was really surprised by how much nicer it felt compared to the K6. The turn-in speed was quicker, the chassis felt sharper and seating position was much better. I’m a tall guy, at over 6ft, but don’t feel cramped on the L6 like I did before on the K6. The K6 used to give me pins and needles in my hands, but the change of riding position’s meant that’s never been a problem on the newer model.

“My only real dislike with the new bike is its ABS system, because it’s far too intrusive. Also, the stock Bridgestone S20Rs lack feel and have felt sketchy at the best of times. I got rid of them and found Pirelli’s Rosso IIIs have made life much better, as has removing the ABS function from the bike. Mine is mostly used on track nowadays, but I still get out on it for the occasional Sunday ride. Another changed I’ve made, and would highly recommend, is to switch the standard pegs for some decent rearsets. I’ve got Lightec units fitted, and they’re great. SBS brake pads have also given the brakes much more purchase and performance. As far as the bike goes, I’d highly recommend it to anyone as it’s a brilliant bike for the price compared to the offerings from other manufacturers. Okay you don’t get as much technology and rider aids, etc. but it’s a very underrated and usable bike. I’m really glad I’ve got mine”
