DUCATI 749

-

The 749 followed the Italian family tradition started by the 748 of running a larger capacity to allow Ducati’s V-twin to compete with the Japanese inline four supersport bikes. On track it wasn’t hugely successful (the 748 won the 1997 WSS championship, something the 749 failed to replicate), but on the road the 749 is a beautiful bike to ride thanks to its strong mid-range and lazy power delivery. The 749’s challenging looks are now far more accepted by riders and it’s a fabulous bike to ride.

WATCH OUT FOR:

Service history is key to 749 ownership as the bike has loads of silly faults (relays, wiring loom, tank rust, etc.) that an expert will sort out at service time, ensuring trouble-free motoring. Also consider which model you want as the post-2004 bikes make more power and the S gains uprated suspension.
