FAST FACTS
Speed wobbles are actually a consequence of the self-straightening effect of the steering. If the wheel lands at an angle and the machine tries to correct (especially on a stiff race bike) it can do so in such a rapid way that movement translates through to the other side, creating the oscillating effect.
Don’t over-dampen your steering damper. It will make the bike sluggish in turning and absolutely horrible at low speed due to the degree of resistance from the bars.
Steering dampers are a reasonably modern commodity – a combination of more power and shorter wheelbases make them a necessity in today’s world.
Contrary to popular belief they need to be serviced just like every other part of your bike. 5 K-Tech dampers are made with aerospace grade 7075 lightweight aluminium due to the high tolerances they endure – they may be small but they are mighty.
