LINCOLNSHIRE

Skegness – Horncastle – Boston – Skegness

-

Ah, Lincolnshire, home to both Cadwell Park and

FB’s HQ, too! The most amazing thing about it though, is the roads. There some seriously fast, seriously fun roads and the best bit is that a lot of the time, they’re pretty quiet to boot.

For this particular route, we’re starting off at the seaside town of Skegness, or the Costa Del Skeggy, or however you prefer to address it! Start off by heading west on the A158 from Skegness, zapping along towards Horncastle. When you reach the town’s centre, turn left on to the A153 and don’t forget to give

FB Towers a peep on your horn when you pass Mortons Media on your left! It’s also worth mentioning roads such as the B1183 that turn off the 153 soon after Horncastle, as that’s another cracker of a twisty ribbon to enjoy.

So, stay on the 153, enjoying its fast and open fare (but always keeping an eye out for speed cameras and the like while being mindful of village speed limits), which will take you through Coningsby and Tattershall.

Not long after, hoik a left on the B1395 until you reach the A17 and take another left there, then another on the A1121 going around Boston before hanging a right on the A52, which brings you right back up to Skegness.

Now, the beauty of this route, as we alluded to earlier, is the sheer number of alternate thrashes one can have from roads in and around it. Call this your base route, if you will, but a quick map-check will show you some stunning roads nearby and, if you fancy it, turn north on the A153 when you hit Horncastle and head towards Cadwell Park, where you can either go see what’s on, or explore and discover the myriad of brilliant roads surrounding it with ace corners, fast stretches and more than one or two giggle-worthy wheelie humps.

Or, you can stay on the 153 until you hit Louth, then take your pick of ace routes back to Skegness – it’s a brilliant part of the world to ride bikes, just watch for speed cameras, average or otherwise, and all the usual rural dangers that come with the territory.

Roads in this area are regularly travelled by reader Neil Brockhouse: “Regular runs for us are from Mansfield, the A617 to Newark, A17 to Sleaford, A153 to Coningsby (nice little cafe at Tattershall opposite the lakes campsite, by the way), the A155 to West Keal, the A16 to Partney then the A158 into Skegness. Good roads and only one or two cameras. Only problem is they get really busy in holidays. Would avoid any part of the A52 around Grantham as it’s full of average speed cameras!”
