WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT

I bought a s/h 97 full power model, dream machine paint from new, full race exhaust (not quiet!). Needed a power commander to smooth the fuelling especially low down. Engine was awesome... handling less so... I made the mistake of listening to the internet forum heroes who insisted that the steering damper was not needed... A 140mph lock to lock ’slapper was enough to convince me it was! Avoided a big off by pure luck. Other than the usual mechanical seal failure on the water pump, I had no issues. Would have another, just for that engine... but would invest in suspension upgrades and a decent steering damper.

Oh yes, one in the garage, it’s not as fierce as people make out, bit slow and old feeling really, but good for a waft about on, and pulls really nice wheelies!

Best pound-for-pound bike I ever owned, just wished Suzuki didn’t ruin it they killed the power then made the terrible TLR. What a shame; they were so nearly there. I had mine two years and did 29,000 miles. And the bike was back in the shop for seven months out of those two years.

Bought one this summer and I love it. The sound it makes when you go down a gear into a corner makes me smile. So different to riding my GSX-R750.
